Retired Chen Zheng climbed 99 of China’s 100 famous peaks, an extraordinary feat, but the most forbidding challenge was setting up a primary school in the locked-away Tibetan hamlet of Motuo. He braved the “Mouth of the Tiger,” the “Devil’s Guts” and the “Monster’s Tongue” to get there, writes Tan Weiyun.

But this time, he is not alone. A team of 15 students from Shanghai International Studies University, Jiao Tong University and Tongji University will go along, taking books, materials and a bit of the outside world....
